Hometown?
Torrance CA in the Beautiful South Bay!
What made you start Djing?
I grew up with such a strong love for music at a young age having 3 older sisters that had 3 very different styles of music. It gave me the ability to learn so many genres at once. At the age of 14 i was introduced to Djing by a youth group leader at Church.
Why did you choose DJ Soosk as a name?
Soosk in Farsi Means Cockroach, My grandmother called me that as a child because i was so dark compared to the rest of my family. It stuck when my friends would start calling me that as a joke. If you cant fight em, Join em! haha.
How long have you been Djing?
2012 will be my 10th year!
Any influences?
Of course growing up DJ AM was a big inspiration to me, I was always more into the turntablists then the "CDJ" Djs.. Some other influences were Dj Vice, Dj Splyce, Dj Spryte, Dj Echo, Dj Loczi, Dj Coke-e just to name a few.
Where was your first gig and what was so special about that night?
I had a couple "First Gigs".. I would say the most memorable one of my first gigs has to be a wedding reception i Djed on Catalina Island. I was 15 years old and it went from being a wedding to a full on party.. We eventually got shut down by the cops.. Amazing night!
What is your favorite record of all time?
One of my favorite tracks of all time has to be "Shed so many tears" by 2 Pac
I was a huge Pac fan growing up.
What clubs have you played at?
I have pretty much Djed at every club in Hollywood,Long Beach and OC at least once.. But Also did some traveling to DJ.
Where can we hear you spin?
Most of the time you can catch me in Long Beach at Basement, Kavikas or Sevillas and also Orange county spinning.. They give me a little bit more leeway to bring out my ability to play hip hop. Its harder to do that in Hollywood.
What's in DJ Soosk's future?
Hopefully get a radio spot and keep a consistent flow of gigs that are international and not just in the states. I have a unique style of doing Top 40s, House, Hip Hop, Spanish and Middle Eastern Music with a constant flow that sets me apart from the rest.
Any shout outs?
First off want to thank God for giving me challenges and pushing me to get to the next level in life. I also want to Thank my Parents for always supporting me in whatever decisions i make in life. My sisters (Shadi, Shabnam and Shamisa) for always helping me and pushing me to the next level. I would not be where im at today without them. Also big shout outs to PM Artists, 93.5 Kday, Gabe Jones, RudRod, Sanchez and the whole guapizeee crew, BIG shot out to all my Djs out there, "You'll never achieve your dreams if they don't become goals." One thing i have figured in this game is to never stop trying, If you don't want it bad enough, someone will gladly take your spot. Thanks to all my Friends and family who inspired me and had my back!
